A little preparation helps
Understand your credit.
You do not need to have every answer before talking to us. Start by learning what is on your credit reports and what a lender needs to review.
It is more than one number.
Lenders consider your credit history alongside income, existing debts, down payment and the property. Requirements differ by lender and program. There is no one score that guarantees approval.
Review your reports
Check account details, payment history and unfamiliar accounts. Credit reports and scores are different things. If you find an error, follow the credit bureau’s dispute process.
Make payments on time
Payment history matters. Reminders or automatic payments can help you avoid missed due dates. Keep track of what is due and make sure the account has enough funds.
Watch credit-card balances
Using a large share of your available credit can affect your score. Paying balances down can help your overall financial position, but changes do not produce a guaranteed score increase or loan approval.
Talk before making changes
Ask your lender before opening new credit, financing a vehicle, closing accounts or making major financial changes during the home-buying process.
Not ready today?
That is okay. A lender can explain what needs attention and what documentation they require. Be cautious of anyone promising instant credit repair or guaranteed approval.
Financing is provided by third-party lenders. Programs, approval, rates, down payments and property requirements vary. Triple S is a home retailer and can help connect you with lenders; your lender determines eligibility and loan terms.
